Behold… my new love. In lamp form. I looked and looked for the perfect lamp to hang in the last little dark corner of my dining room. Although I did find some that I really liked they were prohibitively, and often, disproportionately expensive. I was ready to give up and make one of my own from vintage reproduction lamp parts (scary!) when I stumbled upon the Crown Vintage shop on Etsy and found this beauty…
Made from a black cigar box with two independently controlled bulbs, one vintage style with a dimmer, the other a small red bulb covered by 3oz glass jar with a pull chain – and check out that black fabric covered vintage reproduction cord! LOVE, I tell you. I needed it fast and when I contacted David of Crown Vintage he was an absolute peach and got it to me in three days flat. It is so nice in person, weighty and very professionally put together. I mean it – best lamp ever.
Here are a few more of David’s pieces:
Just LOOK at that cord coming out of the spigot on the one on the left. Awesome. He told me today that he has a slew of new desk top lamps made from cigar boxes coming to his shop in a few short weeks so be sure to keep your eye out for your very own.
And guess what else? David is offering free shipping through the end of March if you use the code “lslphoto”!
See? I told you he was a peach.
I’ve been jumping into photobooths since I was just a kid at the Fun Zone in Newport Beach, California. Early on as a mother, I also indoctrinated my son and we’ve gathered quite a collection. Several months ago, upon finding the website getuncommon, I realized the perfect way to carry part of my photobooth collection around with me every day.
Here’s a quick tutorial so you can make one of your very own:
1 arrange your favorite photobooth strips into a vertical rectangle until you are satisfied.
2 shoot them, layed out just so, with your digital camera (you could use a scanner if you like – my camera is better than my scanner so that’s what I used).
3 load the image into your computer, tweak levels, sharpness, b&w-ness if you wish or, if it’s perfect, skip to step 4.
4 go to getuncommon, select the product you wanna make, upload your fab image and drop the cover in your cart.
5 hit purchase, wait a VERY short time, and then super happy photobooth strip time for you and your iphone!
They have covers for iPhone 4, the new Verizon iPhone, iPod Touch…even the iPad 🙂

Oh, but if I could shoot gorgeous flowers every day…
Gayle Nicoletti of Bloomingayles is a talented local florist who, lucky for me, is also my client. These are some images from one of our shoots and, in December, Gayle was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle along with one of my images.
Good times… good times indeed.
Yesterday marked my fourth year shooting with Becoming Independent. The participants and the organization that serves them are truly extraordinary. I cannot adequately express how deeply gratifying this relationship is for me as a professional and as an individual except to say that each time I visit I am reminded of the beauty of life. And so very replenished by the experience.
… and enjoying every minute of it. I wish a perfectly cozy and lovely one to you and yours. ~ L
A delightful shoot with a delightful client in a delightful location.
